Delhi University has released official notice regarding multiple entry exit system (MEES) under the national education policy 2020 (NEP). Now, students can flexibly continue or stop their course under the 4 year undergraduate program and they will get a certificate or degree for that.
What is Multiple Entry Exit System (MEES)?
Under 4 year UG program, students can take benefits as follows:
- First Year Exit (2 Semesters, 44 Credits): On completing first year, students will get an undergraduate certificate.
- Second Year Exit(4 Semesters, 88 Credits): On completing two years, students will get a diploma which will hold more value than an undergraduate certificate that you get after one year.
- Third Year Exit (6 Semesters): After completing the third year, you will get a graduate degree.
- Fourth Year Exit (8 Semesters): After completing your full four years, you will get an honours/research or enterpreneurship degree.
Procedure for Re-entry: Academic Bank of Credits
Now, all students of DU can store credits with the help of Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). If any students left their studies after one year then with the help of credits they can continue their studies from the place they ended it.
Basically, within 7 years of leaving your course, you can take re-entry in the course and use the previously earned credits. Here are the full details:
- Leave after 1st year, return after 5 years: You can only complete requirements for the diploma as your certificate and prior year already used up 6 of the 7 available years.
- Leave after 2nd year, return after 4 years: Eligible to complete your degree since only 6 total years (including gap) are used.
- Leave after 3rd year, return within 3 years: You can complete the full four-year program and receive a degree with honours/research if credits permit.
Keep in mind that if it’s more than 7 years since you left your studies, then your old credits will be considered invalid and you won’t be able to take benefit of them.
